Arlington Hills United Methodist Church
Belief Statements

Our Mission Statement:

Our mission is to make disciples for Jesus Christ by proclaiming him as Lord, engaging in ministries of nurture and service, and supporting each other in prayer and Christian fellowship.

Our Vision Statement:

Our vision is to be a "bridge" church - a loving and growing Christian family that accepts, celebrates and transcends the differences among generations, local urban and suburban communities, and denominational persuasions.

Our Identity Statement:

We believe that Jesus Christ is Lord and Savior of our own lives and of the lives of all persons.

We believe in the principles of our United Methodist heritage while, at the same time, we welcome persons of all traditions who desire to walk in the way of Christian discipleship. Our theology is thoroughly Wesleyan in its origins and, thus, both evangelical in spirit and inclusive in its approach. We take seriously the great commission of Jesus, "Go and make disciples." Our desire is to serve both the spiritual and physical needs of persons through missionary outreach.

We believe in the Bible, the Old and New Testaments, as God's authoritative Word for how we should live our lives today. Our goal is that all preaching and teaching be consistent with the biblical message. In addition, Christian tradition, intellectual endeavor, and the personal experience of God's forgiving and transforming grace are secondary means by which Christians can discern God's will.

We believe in the elements of the Christian faith as expressed in and through the major creeds of the church including the Apostles' Creed and the Nicene Creed.

We believe that all Christians are called to be in the active ministry of the church and to share the unique gifts they have been given by God as they are able to do so. We support and uphold our own local church, our denomination and the Church Universal by our prayers, our physical presence, and the gifts of our time, talent, and treasure.

We believe that all Christians are called to a ministry of friendliness and hospitality. We, therefore, continue to try to find more ways to invite and include new persons into our fellowship. Believing that God has commanded us to love each other, we live our lives in such a way that shows genuine acceptance of one another within our own local faith community and then, beyond ourselves, to all persons near and far.
